Full Version: Brand new aluminum door with shoddy workmanship. Do I complain or not?

So I had a brand new, custom sized aluminum door made and fitted. When the guys were done installing, I noticed a couple of things:

There's some type of putty in all four corners of the door. Some of the putty is on the "veldt" lining as well.
There's two extra holes drilled into the frame near the hinges
When they screwed the door in, they were careless and every mounting hole has some of the aluminum shaved away because the installer couldn't be bothered to hold his drill straight.

I phoned the company yesterday and asked the sales guy to come out and have a look at the installation. He's coming this afternoon.

Some questions:

Is it reasonable for me to not be happy with the state of the door?
If so, what would a reasonable recourse be? Do I ask for a replacement door, a refund etc.

Please share your thoughts.
When it comes to finding a more permanent and reliable solution, it might be worth considering some DIY modifications. Since commercial metal door frames are built for durability and security, they could be a great starting point, too.
You can look at usafiredoor.com for steel frames, including hollow metal frames, which could provide the sturdy foundation you need to install a proper latch or lock mechanism.
Also, retrofitting your greenhouse door with one of these commercial-grade solutions might take a bit of effort, but it could offer long-term peace of mind, especially during extreme weather conditions.
